Captain Spider / Spiderbeam base

Problem.
1. You live in a crap location.
2. You’d like a DX Commander.
3. You already have a 10m Spiderpole.

Solution.
Lash up “Captain Spider” with stuff from the workshop, as with all good spiders it has 8 legs (radials)

Where to start?

I had some 2mm and 3mm aluminium plate at work, 3mm for the ground plate, 2mm for the driven plate.

I’ve used M6 aluminium riv nuts for the 8 radial attachment points.

The driven plate also has 3 M6 aluminium riv nuts for securing the driven elements to by using a M6 thumb screw, the driven plate is attached to the ground plate by using some M6 rubber mountings to keep the assembly as that, an assembly.

Once finished I intend to try and use this on 6m, 10m, 20m and 40m.
The 10m is trapped with a coax trap, the elemnt then continues as a 40m element, the remaining elements will be for 20 and 6m.

The plastic spreader hopefully will double up ans a spreader and a clamp to stop the pole collapsing, just need to figure a nice way of clamping it hence the big tangs, not decided yet!

This is very much work in progress, I’ve already dropped a bollock or two but it’s my first attempt, I intend to make all my listakes on this then make a nicer one in the future!
